Mary Johnson

Mary Ann Johnson was born May 5, 1938 in Louise Mississippi, to the late Gwin and Annie Bell Jackson. She was the sixth child born to this union. She was raised in Louise, Mississippi, where she made a living working on her father's farm. From a tender age, she dedicated her life to Christ, embracing her faith with unwavering devotion. She was blessed with a large family, nurturing and guiding a lively household of twelve children. Her home was a place of comfort and consistency, and her presence brought a steady kind of love that can't be replaced. In 1974 at the age of 36, she moved herself and her children to Kankakee, IL. During her stay in Kankakee, she was employed as a cook at KinderCare and Manteno Veterans home, in Manteno IL. She moved back to Mississippi and rededicated her life to Christ at Mt. Zion Church of Yazoo City, Mississippi. She was married two times in her lifetime; to the late Henry Lee Wilkes and Doyle Johnson. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, planting and singing. She leaves to cherish her memory, six daughters, Bobbie Ann Jackson of Yazoo City, MS, Margaret A. Dixon of Fayetteville, NC, Linda Gardner (Ross) of St. Louis, MO, Katherine Wilkes, Mary B. Wilkes and Josephine Wilkes, all of Kankakee, IL; two sons, Joe Jackson (Bobbie) of Yazoo City, MS and Henry Wilkes Jr. of Chicago, IL; one brother, Gwin Jackson Jr. (Ethel) of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Casey (CaTina) Burrell of Yazoo City, MS, Catrina Jackson of Kankakee, IL, Maggie Jackson of Yazoo City, MS, Daphene and Curtis Johnson of Yazoo City, MS, Lakeshia Wilkes of Houston, TX, LaTika S. Dixon of Alexandria, VA, LaNika D. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Johnson; four children, Rosemary Johnson, Gladys Johnson, Otha Wilkes and her precious stillborn child; four sisters, Ruby Townsend, Maggie Trippet, Beulah Mae Coleman and Annie Jackson; three brothers, Lee Aurby Jackson, Willie Jackson and Monroe Jackson; three grandsons, De'Arrion Harris, Estrada Ousley and James Wesley Thomas III.
