Lashawn Marshall

Ms. LaShawn Renee Marshall, also known by many of her family members as Shawnie Poo, Mama Essie or simply Shawn, daughter of Jessie and Celia Marshall was born December 26, 1976, in Kankakee, Illinois. Shawn spent her early years living and attending grade school through high school in both California and Illinois. At an early age, Shawn professed her faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of Greater Christian Unity Missionary Baptist Church, in Robbins, IL and remained a member of that church for many of her years. As a young woman, Shawn fell in love with many sports and competitions; however, she excelled in, cheerleading, football, and track. Shawn loved cheerleading and football; however, track would rise as her ultimate favorite sport of them all. In terms of track, Shawn was known at a young age to be one of the fastest short distance runners in the city. As such, some compared her lighting speed and technique to the likes of the late great Flo Jo. Also, at an early age, Shawn discovered that she was a fashionista; consequently, she could assemble an impeccable outfit out of several pieces that many would never have the eye to see. Shawn was so gifted, that she would assist her closest friends and family members with both shopping and assembling outfits for many memorable events in their lives. Later in life, Shawn took that tack for fashion and turned it into a love and passion for event planning. Shawn’s business, “Moments Cherished,” was rapidly growing as she would complete several successful events all over the country. She was quickly becoming the “go to” Event Planner, and many friends and family members trusted her with their “Moments Cherished.” Furthermore, Shawn was also known as a very kind, sweet, caring and generous person: who would literally do anything she could to help anyone. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, Shawn was loved by many. Shawn’s life was as beautiful as one of her eloquently, decorated banquet halls, that she loved so dearly, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who had the pleasure to enter her life. Shawn quietly transitioned from this life Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL following a short very hard-fought war with a major health issue. Shawn was preceded in death by her mother Celia Marshall, father Jesse Marshall, brother Brian Marshall, both maternal and paternal grandparents, and several other family members and friends. In closing, Shawn’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her loving children: India, Imani, and Zion; sister Armeia; brother Patrick, bonus sister/bestie Jeanette Moore, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and devoted family members.
