EDDIE NEWMAN

Eddie Newman, 86, of Kankakee, made his transition to be with the Lord, with his wife at his side, while sleeping peacefully, on May 14, 2012 at 3:15 a.m. at the Illinois VeteransÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ Home, Manteno, IL. Visitation will be Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Services at 12:00 noon at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Sun River Terrace, IL. Pastor Ricky Dixon will officiate. Burial will be Monday, May 21, 2012 in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL. Eddie Newman was born to the union of Roosevelt Newman and Lela Ward on January 21, 1926 in St. Louis, MO. He enlisted in the United States Army where he fought in World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1945. Mr. Newman confessed his life to Christ at an early age and firmly planted his feet with the Lillydale Baptist Church of Chicago, IL until he relocated to Kankakee in 1978 and became an active member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon under the leadership of the late Alex T. Bond and now the honorable Pastor Ricky Dixon. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Adele Boyden on December 18, 1981 and he retired from GAF Inc., Joliet, IL in 1982. He was once a professional boxer, known around the world, and he loved bowling. Mr. Newman was a Ã¢â‚¬Å"Prayer WarriorÃ¢â‚¬Â and well known for his fervent and effectual prayers. He loved the Lord and loved family. He met the needs of so many others through prayers and devotional songs and other acts of kindness. Eddie Newman leaves in the everlasting hands of his Master and Savior, Jesus Christ, his wife of 30 years, Adele Newman of Kankakee, IL; two brothers, Rufus Newman of Kankakee, IL and Cornell Newman of Chicago, IL; four sons, Edward Newman of Bourbonnais, IL, Keith Boyden and Derrick Boyden, both of Kankakee, IL and Bobby (Donna) Newman of Baltimore , MD; four daughters, Joyce Davis of Ghana, Africa, Rachell (Jerrol) Hamilton of Gary, IN, Kimberly Hayes and Ruth (Noel) Alexander, all of Kankakee, IL; goddaughter, Toni Thomas of Chicago, IL; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; special nephews, Mark Jones and Victor Allen, both of Kankakee, IL; special friend, John Works of Sun River Terrace, IL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roosevelt Newman Jr. and Milton Newman. Eddie Newman will be sadly missed and the absence of him singing his favorite song-Ã¢â‚¬Å"Jesus is on the Main Line.Ã¢â‚¬Â Special thanks to Illinois VeteransÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ Home, Manteno, IL and Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
