Donna Kurrle

Donna M. Kurrle was born December 20, 1932 in Lomax, IL to John and Fannie (Williams) VanHyning. In March 1953, she married Jack H. Kurrle of Dallas City, IL. This union was blessed with four children. They shared 50 years of love, life and companionship and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary before Mr. Kurrle passed away in November 2003. Mrs. Kurrle will be remembered by many as a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross and other community services. For 10 years she was a Blood Services Chairperson for Mercer County ARC serving not only at the chapter level but at the regional level as well. She served on many committees and shared her successful ideas and experiences with other chapters in the region via workshops and presentations at annual meetings. During this tenure, she received many honors and awards for Mercer County and for herself personally. Some of those honors include Community Builders Award by Aledo Masonic Lodge 252 and Woman of the Year by Aledo Jaycees. She also received the 1987 Illinois Health Volunteer Award by the Illinois Health Improvement Association and for this she was presented a plaque with her image in bronze at their annual meeting in Springfield, IL. Mrs. Kurrle was a devoted wife and mother. She considered that to be her most important role in life and she did it exceptionally well. She always put her family first even before herself. Her children’s friends and peers were always welcome in the Kurrle home. There they could have fun and just be kids but were required to abide by the guidelines set for her own family and they respected this. Mrs. Kurrle was very creative and had a keen eye for art and design. She was an avid reader, loved the card game, Bridge, and enjoyed playing Sudoku. Mrs. Kurrle was a member of the Aledo United Methodist Church and, in recent years, attended the Eastridge Church of the Nazarene. A daughter, Angela Kurrle, preceded her parents in death in June 2003. Also, her parents and three sisters, Paula VanHyning, Lois Swigert and Virginia Massie, have preceded her in death. Mrs. Kurrle is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Kurrle, of Kankakee, IL; a son, Dean Kurrle and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Kurrle, of Bradley, IL, their children, Brittany (Connor) Terrell, Alex Kuban, Sadie Piehl with children Jayce and Jonah; and a son, Chris Kurrle of Rio Rancho, NM and Konstance Kurrle of Highland, IL, their children, Kayla Kurrle of Lakewood, CA and Conner Kurrle of Highland, IL. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Eva (VanHyning) Horan, and her husband, John Horan, of rural Dallas City, IL, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
