Celia Marshall

Ms. Celia Mary Marshall, also known by many of her family and friends as “Sealy,” “Seedy,” “C,” or “Fats.” was born on March 9, 1952, to the union of Charlie Woods and Geneva Norris, in Demopolis, Alabama. Consequently, Celia would spend her early years living in her native Demopolis, Alabama. Soon thereafter, Celia and her family would relocate to Illinois, and she would spend the bulk of her childhood and early adult life living in the Metro-Chicagoland area. During a chance encounter, while in high school, Celia would meet Jesse “Tootie” Marshall, and this encounter would literally change the course of her life forever. After meeting, the two went out a couple of times. As a result, they would go on to become high school sweethearts. As she often told the story: She simply could not get rid of him, so she finally decided to put him out of his misery and agree to join him in holy matrimony. From this union they were blessed with three phenomenal children: Brian, “the wild child,” Patrick, “the momma’s boy,” and Lashawn, “the spoiled brat.” As such, the two would go on to raise their family in both California and Illinois. Celia loved listening to music, dancing laughing, playing cards, cooking, and spending time with loved ones. She could be caught jamming to Luther Vandross while cooking Sunday dinner in the kitchen. She could make anything taste great; however, everyone loved her “World Famous” Potato Salad, Dressing, Mac and Cheese and Sweet Potato Pies; which, both were in high demand at every special occasion. Whether it be professionally or personally, Celia dedicated her life to helping those in need. She gave selflessly without expecting anything in return. She also worked tirelessly, and always fought for what was right. She was best known for her open invitations to anyone in need. She was a “human magnet,” as so many would flock to her as her gigantic heart exuded love and peace to all who entered her world. As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, Celia was loved and adored by so many, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all whom she touched. The world would be such a better place if more of us possessed even a fraction of some of these attributes. Celia transitioned from this life Monday, June 22, 2020 at her home. Celia was preceded in death by her Parents, Brian, Tootie, Granddaughters: Taylor and Zaya, and several other family members and friends In closing, Celia’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her Loving Children: Lashawn, Patrick & Tevin; Grandchildren; Great Grandchildren: Siblings; Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Friends and Loving Family Members.
