Betty Lumpkins

Betty Lumpkins, 72, of Pembroke Township, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Riverside Medical Center. Visitation will be Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Bible Church (formerly, Church of the Cross), 13043 E. 2260 S. Road, Pembroke Township, IL 60958. Burial will be in Momence Cemetery. Betty Jean (Jackson) Lumpkins was born February 27, 1952, in Pine Hill, Alabama to Roosevelt Jackson and Vera Mae (Zimmerman) Jackson. Betty’s family later moved to Chicago, IL where she attended King High School. Betty met Lee Arthur Lumpkins, and they were united in holy matrimony on April 19, 1989. Betty dedicated her life to both her family and her community. She was a homemaker and worked as an industrial line worker. Later, she found her true calling at St. Anne Community High School, where she served as a cook and hall monitor. In this role, she formed many meaningful connections with students and staff, earning the affectionate nickname "Auntie Betty" for her caring and direct nature. Betty found joy in a variety of activities that reflected her vibrant and nurturing spirit. She loved card playing, and fishing, and was well-known for her talent in cooking delicious meals that brought family and friends together for cherished Sunday dinners. Her passion extended to decorating and caring for plants, creating beautiful and welcoming spaces. Music and dancing were also close to her heart, providing a rhythm to her lively personality and love of life. Betty leaves to cherish her fondest memories: three brothers, Ronnie Earl Jackson, Quentin Barnslater, and Andre Barnslater; sister Quartrina Barnslater; three sons, Lee Lumpkins, Ernest Lumpkins, Charlie Lumpkins; three sisters-in law, Genetta Lumpkins, Elnora Coleman, and Mary Jackson; uncle, Michael Houston, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt Jackson and Vera Mae (Zimmerman) Jackson; husband, Lee Lumpkins; daughter, Carolyn Jackson, six brothers, Roosevelt Jackson Jr, Anthony Jackson Sr., William Barnslater, Warwick Barnslater, Antwain Barnslater, and Cornelius Johnson; two sisters, Rosa Nell Jackson and Vera Mae Brandon; stepmother, Barbara Jean Jackson, and three nephews, Tashon Jones, D’onte Gullens, and Ozell Jackson.
