LOUISE CALHOUN Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Louise Calhoun, 78, of Kankakee, IL, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at her home. Visitation will be Friday, January 31, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Lax Mortuary. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Shiloh Full Gospel Baptist Church. Pastor Alan Roundtree will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded at the wishes of Ms. Calhoun. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society. Jennie Louise Pendergrass Calhoun (Louise) was born March 21, 1935 in Jasper, Tennessee. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. She was united in marriage to Clifford Calhoun Jr. and together they raised their six children. Louise later joined Shiloh Full Gospel Baptist Church in Kankakee. She worked as a nurseÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s aide at St MaryÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Hospital in Kankakee, and later as a cosmetologist for Aldens Department Store in Kankakee for many years, until they closed. She loved cooking, having garage sales, fishing and her lottery scratch off tickets. Louise was a kind hearted person and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone down on their luck. But more than anything, her favorite activity was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louise was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2006 and on January 23, 2014, she won her battle and was elevated to a higher calling into the Gates of Heaven. She leaves to cherish her memory, the Loves of Her Life, two daughters, Kathy Wilder of Kankakee, IL and Cheryl Lewis of Fort Wayne, IN; four sons, Tonee (Michelle) Carter of Marietta, GA, Clifford Ã¢â‚¬Å"WayneÃ¢â‚¬Â Calhoun, Edward L. Calhoun and Craig R. Calhoun all of Kankakee, IL; a sister, Deborah Kelly of Chattanooga, TN; brothers, Mack (Tekelia) Kelly of Chattanooga, TN, Michael (Brenda) Kelly of Atlanta, GA, and Willard (Fannie) Pendergrass of Nashville, TN; maternal aunt, Virginia Sparks and maternal uncle, Charles Greene, both of Chattanooga, TN; three sisters-in- law, Delores Calhoun Farr of Chicago, IL, Sandra (Derrick) Barnes of St Louis, MO and Francis Blythe of Marion, IL; two brothers-in-law, John Calhoun of Phoenix, AZ and Sherman Calhoun of Kankakee, IL; former husband and life-long friend, Clifford Calhoun, Jr., special cousins, Shirley Fentress Greene and Sylvia Greene and sister-friend, Shirley M. Hood; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Waiting to welcome Louise are her parents, James and Martha Kelly; her mother-in-law, Annie Calhoun; father and mother-in-law, Clifford Sr. and Naomi Calhoun; sisters-in-law, Ernestine Stewart, Loretta Adams and Patricia Calhoun, a brother-in law, Jewel Crumble, and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
