Jimmy D. Sanders, 86, of Kankakee, IL, died Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Visitation will be Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Lax Mortuary and again on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. until time of Funeral services at 11:00 A.M. at Second Baptist Church. Reverend Michael Prude will officiate. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association. Jimmy D. Sanders was born May 5, 1927 in Cleveland, Mississippi to the late Leanna and Ike Sanders Sr. He became a member of Second Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend James T. Smith and served faithfully as captain of the Usher Board. Mr. Sanders enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Service Ribbon, two Bronze Campaign Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He worked for the Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights, IL and retired after over 32 years of service. He had also worked for the Kankakee Foundry and Joliet Arsenal. Mr. Sanders was a member of the local American Legion, was an avid pool shooter, excellent cook, loved desserts and was a baseball fan, especially of the White Sox and American Negro League. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jimmy S. and Candice Sanders of Washington, DC and Timothy Sykes and Sherri Timms-Sykes of Sun River Terrace, IL; one brother, Ike Sanders Jr. of Chicago, IL; others who loved him, Mary Frances Taylor, Alice Prude-Jackson, Ryonal Oneal, Will Sykes, Dandy Sanders, Malicho Taborn, MacArthur Campbell, Vivian Sanders, and Daniel Price and a host of others. He was preceded in death by one son, Jackie Sanders; two daughters, Patricia Webb and Geraldine Sanders; six brothers, James, Wilbert, Johnnie, Eddie, Morse and Willie Lee Sanders and seven sisters, Dorothy Sanders, Teresa Coffey, Plumma Lee Anderson, Matilda Ward, Vera Mae Price, Veaner Ervin and Maggie Mae Jefferson.
