Dale Lea Washington was born Sadie Lea Dale Butler on July 25, 1920 in Memphis, Tennessee to William Butler and Clara Sadie Williams. She attended Lucy Flower High School in Chicago, IL. She worked as a Mental Health Technician at Manteno State Hospital for 15 years and for 10 years she worked at Bruno Casket Company. She was also a self-employed beautician. Mrs. Washington was very active throughout her life. She played the piano for 56 years at the churches she fellowshipped at, Greater St. Paul Baptist Church, St. Anne Woods Chapel and Grace Fellowship Church. She sang in the choir with the greats, Mahalia Jackson and Albertina Walker. She taught Sunday School and was the director and co-founder of the Pembroke Community Singers Choir, Gospel Teen Choir and Pembroke Youth Choir. She worked for the Democratic Party, loved family time, enjoyed cooking, and was a fashionista. She was united in marriage to Paul Washington in April, 1959. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons and one daughter-in-law, William and Lynette Bridgeman of Bourbonnais, IL and Paul Washington of Chicago, IL; one special son, Richard Powell of Kankakee, IL; one special nephew, Edward and Marlene Grady of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Tesonia (Lonnie) Bridgeman-Paden, Victoria Bridgeman, Mikyya (Jimmy Jr.) Bridgeman-Bynum, Tanisha Bridgeman and Thelma Washington; eight great-grandchildren, Aundrea Bridgeman, Chantel Partee, Kiana Paden, Jimikka Bynum, Jimmy Bynum III, Lonnie Paden Jr., Kenya Partee and Tyler Welch; nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends, including the Washington, Grady, Harding, Bridgeman, Pittman and Anthony families. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Martina White; a brother, William Butler; a cousin, Ruth Pugh and three nephews, Albert Grady, Ronald Grady and James Conyers.
