Doris Jordan, 86, of Momence, made her transition on Friday, December 23, 2011 at Riverside Medical Center. Visitation will be Friday, December 30, 2011 from 10:00 A.M. until time of funeral services at 11:00 A.M. at House of Prayer Apostolic Church of God. Elder Lawrence Shepherd will be officiating. Burial will be in Momence Cemetery. Doris Jordan was born May 20, 1925 in Ruleville, Mississippi to Lemon Brown and Rosie Lee Gladney. She accepted Christ and was baptized in the Pentecostal Church. She was a member of Pembroke Bibleway Church of God in Christ, where she served as a Church Mother. Mrs. Jordan was united in Holy Matrimony to Shole Jordan on July 10, 1945 and to their union was born five children. Mother Jordan, affectionately known as â€Å"Granny,†was the visionary and co-founder, with her husband, of Garden of Prayer Deliverance Center. She worked at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Hospital and retired after 11 years of service. She also worked as a Nurse’s Assistant and as a Cook in the healthcare field. Mrs. Jordan worked for Ford Motor Company and R R Donnelley Publishing Company. A resident of Momence since 1970, she was active in her community serving as an Advocate for the homeless, a Family and Children’s Advocate and Foster Parent. Mother Jordan received numerous awards, such as the Dr. Marjorie Thompson Humanitarian Service Award, The Momence Chamber of Commerce Award, Governor’s Home Cup Award, and The State of Illinois Humanitarian Service Award, sponsored by Representative Phil Novak, for all her hard work and commitment to her community. She enjoyed needlepoint, cooking and watching baseball in her spare time. Doris Jordan made her transition on December 23, 2011. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Shole Jordan of Momence, IL; six sons and three daughters-in-law, Shelly and Barbara Jordan of South Holland, IL, Roosevelt and Jackie Brown of Gary, IN, Robert Snipes of Kankakee, IL, Jimmie and Teresa Jordan of Seattle, WA, Leon Snipes of Pontiac, IL and Walter Womack of Chicago, IL; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Vurnice and Franklin Maloney of Momence, IL, Lonnie Jordan and Ray Graves of Country Club Hills, IL, and Denise and Robert Alexander of Kankakee, IL; 60 plus grandchildren, 50 plus great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Edward Jordan and Paul Jordan and one sister, Mary Flowers.
