    ALVIN MURRELL

    September 20, 1947 - May 7, 2019

    Alvin Murrell Sr., 71, of Kankakee, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at his home. Visitation will be Friday, May 10, 2019 from 6:00 until 8:00 P. M. at Lax Mortuary and again on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. until time of funeral services at 11:00 A.M. at Second Baptist Church. Reverend Ernest Rucker will officiate. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory. Alvin Murrell was born September 20, 1947 in Chicago, IL to Johnnie C. Murrell Sr. and Fatima I. Milai Murrell. He grew up in Hopkins Park, IL and attended Hopkins Park schools and St. Anne High School. In his younger years he attended Rehoboth Mennonite Church and after moving to Kankakee he became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church where he was on the usher board. Later Alvin joined Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He had been employed at Ford Motor Company, Simoniz and 33 years at ComEd. Alvin started â€Å"The Kankakee Boxing Club†where he had a passion for training and coaching youth in the community. He also had a very strong love for owning and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He leaves to cherish his memory, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Alvin and Michelle Murrell Jr. of Louisville, KY, Brandon Crabb of Menard, IL and Rashad and Tanya Murrell of San Antonio, TX; a stepson, Lamar and Jamie Hamilton of Aroma Park, IL; a ‘stepson,' Shanquwil Jones of Kankakee, IL; six daughters and two sons-in-law, Rev. Sherree and Thomas Williams of Louisville, KY, Teanna Stokes, Akilah Stewart and Phylicia Murrell, all of Kankakee, IL, Alisha and Marshall Cockers Jr. of Darien, IL and Gerlyn Murrell of Blacksburg, VA; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Cornell Murrell and twin brother, Calvin Murrell, both of Kankakee, IL and Floyd and Alicia Murrell of Nashville, TN; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Edna Beard of Philadelphia, PA, Jeanette Muhammad of Country Club Hills, IL Amonez and Pastor Sam Rover II of Pembroke Township, IL and Sylvia Bell of Kankakee, IL; a very special friend, Alvin Scott of Minneapolis, MN, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Carola Murrell and Nicole Green; five brothers, Johnnie Jr. Wendell, Kenneth and Vernon Murrell and Oreon Roberts, and one sister, Yvonne Murrell.
