WALTER PETERSON

Walter Gene Peterson, 77, of Kankakee, IL, went home to be with his Heavenly Father to receive eternal rest on January 10, 2014 at his home. Visitation will be Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 9:00 A.M. until time of Funeral Services at 10:00 A.M. at Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Howard Wills Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be anymore pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelations 21:4. Walter Gene Ã¢â‚¬Å"BrotherÃ¢â‚¬Â Peterson was born May 25, 1936 in Haywood County, Tennessee. He was the seventh of eight children born to the late Martin Peterson Jr. and Emma McFarland Peterson. Upon moving to Kankakee, IL Mr. Peterson joined the Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon and choir member until his health failed. He loved his pastor and church family. He worked for the Vulcan Material Company and retired after over 25 years of service. In 1976, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Alean Adams and in 2003, he was married to Mildred Springer. He leaves to cherish is memory, three sons and one daughter-in-law, Willie and Geraldine Adams and Wilbert Adams, all of Kankakee, IL and Michael Douglas of Jackson, TN; six daughters and two sons-in-law, Caylon Peterson of Bourbonnais, IL, Dorothy and M.L. Hester, Barbara and Lynnal Brookshaw, LaJuene Tucker and JoAnn Tucker, all of Kankakee, IL and Alma Springfield of Brownsville, TN; two grandchildren he raised as his own, Elton Jefferson of Fort Wayne, IN and Michael Adams of Kankakee, IL; three sisters, Patsie Richmond of Stanton, TN, Aretha McNeal of Memphis, TN and Emma Lean Turner of Humboldt, TN; two sisters-in-law, Martha Johnson of Memphis, TN and Easter Hunter of Somerville, TN; special grandchildren, Alean Brookshaw, Yemia Brookshaw, Lynnal Brookshaw Jr. and Kyle Daniels, all of Kankakee, IL; 42 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; Mildred Springer and family of Kankakee, IL; the Jefferies and the Jackson families and a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alean Peterson, two sons, Elton and Michael Adams, one grandson, Tevin Douglas, two sisters, Bobetta Turner and Lucy Bufford, and two brothers, Henry Peterson and James Peterson.
