Shirley Jean Johnson Wright, 59, of Kankakee, IL, departed this life on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at her home. There will be no public Visitation. Funeral Services will be Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor C. RamÃƒÂ³nt Morris will officiate and Pastor Emeritus William H. Copeland Jr. will deliver the eulogy. Shirley Jean Johnson Wright was born August 8, 1955 in Starkville, Mississippi. She was the second child, first born daughter of Christine and John Pulliam. A graduate of Eastridge High School, Broadway Beauty School and having attended Kankakee Community College, she recognized the importance of education. Additionally, through Phoenix University courses she honed her skills, becoming an independent Kankakee business woman. She successfully owned and operated Trichessence Beauty Salon in downtown Kankakee and on Court Street for 35 years. Ms. Shirley was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir as well as taught Sunday school classes, in addition to her fellowship at Mt. Moriah and Fairhaven churches. Her wisdom and guidance mentored many and she gave generously to the Kankakee County Community as a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, Ladies of the Elks Ã¢â‚¬â€œLodge # 1753, and the Kankakee Small Business Association. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, son, Christopher M. Johnson, Atlanta, GA, daughter, Iva Martenez, Kankakee, IL, son, Baba Cordell (Taese) Wright, Atlanta, GA; her mother, Christine, Kankakee, IL; Uncle/Father, Ira (Ruby) Nelson, Kankakee, IL; sisters, Rosa Hawkins, Kankakee, IL and Johnnie M. Johnson; stepdaughter, Cynthia Jackson Caldwell, Atlanta, GA; thirteen grandchildren: Brooklyn Butler, Taylor Johnson, Tiara Johnson, Damascus Johnson, Blake Johnson, Hayli Martenez, Shandria Jackson, Isaiah Wright, Ahsir Wright, Neteru Wright, Essence Snowden, Auset Snowden and Tayvon Snowden; two great-grandchildren: Armon Butler and Aubrey Burton; nieces: Shawna Hawkins, Denise Pulliam and Freida Pulliam, nephews: Jamar Hawkins, Chris Pulliam, Myron Pulliam and Junior Pulliam, and a treasured host of family, special friends and acquaintances. She was preceded in death by her father, John Pulliam, two brothers and two uncles. Ms. Shirley enjoyed writing, gardening, home dÃƒÂ©cor, traveling, cooking and socializing with family and friends. Never meeting a stranger, her social gatherings always brought everyone together. Her beautiful life and smile graced us all and will forever remain in our hearts.
