Shirley Jean Smith

Some glad morning when this life is over, I’m gonna fly away Shirley Jean Smith collected her wings and took flight in the early evening hours of January 26, 2020 with her family by her side. She was the eleventh of twelve children born to James and Elizabeth Howard and the sixth one to go onward to be with the Lord. She was true believer in the almighty GOD. She was slow to anger and quick to forgive. She always tried to find the good in everyone. She tried to make people feel comfortable when they encountered this great big family of ours. She loved to sing and could harmonize from tenor to soprano because she had that kind of range. To speak about her work ethic and her prowess as an administrative assistant would not be important to Shirley Jean. She asked her children and those who were around her to forgive her and of course they did because who in their right mind could stay angry with Jean. She was not perfect and she knew that, but she was loving and she cared so much about everyone. So, right now in this moment what she would want each and every one to hear from her is “Don’t ever give up the fight.” Like Jean, fight to hold onto your salvation with everything you have; fight for your health and your overall wellbeing; fight for those you love and never give up on them; fight to be a light even in your darkest times; fight to be an example and a representative of our lord and savior Jesus Christ; don’t ever give up the fight. Then when you think about Jean, which most of us will from time to time, picture her with Bay, harmonizing in that heavenly choir with Thomas, one shoe off, on the drums keeping that celestial beat as they sing, dance, and worship our amazing saviour. She leaves to keep up the fight, a focused group of loved ones, her son, Trevaun Smith; a special son, Jordan Hull; her daughter, Porscha Smith; a special daughter, Mercadees Hull; two grandchildren, Athena Smith and Amir Smith; two brothers, James Howard and Tyler Howard; four sisters,, Betty (Sam) Woods, Susie Green, Doris Martin and Dollie Jackson, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elizabeth Howard; brothers, L. G. Davis, H. G. Howard, Eddie Mac Howard and Nathaniel Howard; sister, Deloris Bay Griffin; nephews, James Earl Brandon, David James Campbell, Al Deon Howard and Thomas Williams and nieces, Sheila Howard and Celestine Brandon-Ware. TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR THE THINGS HE HAS DONE!!
