Samuel Crews

Samuel Crews, 57, of Hampton, GA, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, GA. Visitation will be Friday, August 23, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Lax Mortuary and again on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 9:00 A.M. until time of funeral services at 10:00 A.M. at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Montele Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory. Samuel Crews was born February 22, 1962 in Jackson, Mississippi to James Sr. and Christine Dixon Crews. He graduated from Eastridge High School in 1980 where he had been an outstanding track star. On March 10, 2016, he was inducted into the Kankakee High School Athletic Hall of Fame for Outstanding 1600M Relay Team 1979 at Eastridge High School. He continued his education at Jackson State University and graduated in 1985 with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. Samuel was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church and was a member of Devine Faith Ministry International where he participated in the men bible study. Samuel was employed by MARTA for 28 years as a loan officer while also working for Home Depot as a sales associate for 17 years. He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Samuel Davis of Jackson, Mississippi; his mother and stepfather, Christine and Rev. Roger Sykes of Kankakee, IL; a grandson, Ethan Jacob Davis of Jackson, Mississippi; two brothers, Ronnie Jerome Crews of Kankakee, IL and Pastor Adam P. (Regina) Crews Sr. of Hebron, KY; two step-brothers, Roger Felix (Amber) Sykes Jr. of Kankakee, IL and Donald Brooks of Ft. Myers, FL; four step-sisters, Vivian Dixon, Myra (Dwayne) Purnell and Kim Sykes, all of Minnesota and Yolanda Sykes of Stone Mountain, GA; three aunts, Rosie Lee Nelson of Jackson, Mississippi, Katherine (Harry) Edmond of Minnesota and Carrie (Robert) Williams of Cincinnati, OH; two uncles, George (Patricia) Dixon and Rev. Roosevelt Dixon both of Gary, IN; a special friend, Gwen Bennett of Atlanta, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Johnnie Brooks and James Crews Jr.; his grandparents; aunts, Josie Watson, Mary Carroll, Ernestine Smith and Polly Dixon and uncles, Samuel Dixon, Joseph Dixon and Robert Lee Dixon.
