Ã¢â‚¬Â¦And the Journey Begins Lillie Ã¢â‚¬ËœLilÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ Mae Green, 82, of Kankakee, IL died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Presence St. MaryÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Hospital. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at House of Prayer Apostolic Church of God. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at House of Prayer Apostolic Church of God. Pastor Janice Green will officiate. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory. Mother Lillie Ã¢â‚¬ËœLilÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ Mae Green was born in Galion, Louisiana on June 1, 1931, to James Holmes and Lena Hicks. She attended elementary school in Galion as this is where her upbringing began. She married the late Charlie Green in 1956 in Chicago, IL and together they reared nine children. As a young woman Mother Green accepted Christ at Mt. Olive Baptist church under the leadership of the late Reverend J. Harris. She continued her spiritual journey and was baptized in JesusÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ Name at the Indiana Avenue Pentecostal Church then under the leadership of Pastor Odell Akins (deceased) in Chicago, IL. Mother Green continued her membership under the leadership of Bishop Charles Davis. In later years, then Evangelist Ella M. Davis, a member of Indiana Avenue Pentecostal Church answered the call to pursue her ministry as Pastor. Mother Green and her family made the decision to serve under Pastor DavisÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ leadership. Mother Lillie Green was commissioned by the Lord to work the work of a missionary. She supported her pastor and church in many areas; financially, janitorial, cooked, provided transportation and went on many missionary journeys with Pastor Davis. She was an usher in the church for many years, also served in the Illinois State Council and at the international level. She was a very loving woman who came to the rescue of many individuals who were in need. She loved caring for and working with GodÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s people. Mother Green was a very industrious woman. She worked as a cosmetologist while also employed full-time at the Kankakee State Mental Hospital. She retired from the hospital after 28 years of employment. Even with her strong work ethic, she continued to be a devoted wife and mother. She was always there to reach out to those individuals who needed encouragement and support, both in her church and the community. She served with loyalty and a passionate heart to give. She will be missed and remembered by her peers who worked alongside of her in the kitchen using their culinary skills to cook scrumptious meals for the church. For these women did more than just cook. They shared a strong bond, prayed with one another as well as for the church body. They were the Ã¢â‚¬Å"watchmen.Ã¢â‚¬Â These women supported the work of the ministry in keeping the vision: Ã¢â‚¬Å"care for the dying, rescue the perishing.Ã¢â‚¬Â As a result of their godly conduct and behavior the church became stronger. Mother Green and these women excelled in their gift. She leaves fond memories with her children, Greg Green of Kankakee, IL, Elder Randy (Pastor Janice) Green of Naples, FL, Charles (Corky) Green of Chicago, IL, Paul (Laurene) Green of Champaign, IL, Timothy Green of Peoria, IL, Elisabeth Green of Chicago, IL, Ester Davis of Kankakee, IL, Isaac (Venus) Green of Minnesota and a son-in-law, John Sykes of St. Louis, MO; extended children, Tanya of Texas, Faith of Atlanta, GA, Charity of Kankakee, IL and Arthur; 12 grandchildren Thaddeus Sykes (Teressa), John Sykes III (Brandy), Jamie, Tiffany, Samuel Jr., Telequese, Anthony, Charles Jr., Timothy Jr., Elinisha, Eliquisha and Dominique, and extended grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Thaddeus Jr. and Carrington; her siblings, Ray Harris and Meleatha Reece both of St. Louis, MO, Veola (Earl) Dunn of Anderson, IN and Theo Joseph of Kankakee, IL; her god-daughter, Penny Barnes, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sheila Green and Patricia Sykes, and her siblings, Jimmy Lambert, Earnest Holman, Leon Smith, Lucy Ellis, Katie Harris and Ruth Laury.
