Jake Maiden

Jake Maiden was born on September 11, 1945, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to the late Phil and Kate Cooper Maiden. Jake was the eighth child of nine children. On October 10, 1964, Jake married his childhood friend and the love of his life, Connie Phillips. To this union was born two beautiful daughters, Cassandra and Jacqueline. Jake and Connie's marriage epitomized Mark 10:9, what God has joined together, let no man put asunder. Their love endured for 56 years. Jake and Connie moved their family from Mississippi to Illinois in 1969. Jake worked for Cleveland Steel Containers for over 40 years. Jake demonstrated to his employers what consistency and hard work really meant. He was baptized in Jesus’ Name and filled with the Holy Ghost under the Pastorate of the late founder and Pastor Dr. Ella Mae Davis at House of Prayer Apostolic Church, Inc. He faithfully served as Minister and Deacon under Dr. Ella Mae Davis and Pastor Claudius Anderson. Minister Jake Maiden was gifted with the ability to quote “word for word” scriptures of the Bible; his gift of singing lifted the spirits of the church congregation. He remained a faithful member of the House of Prayer Apostolic Church #1 until his death. Minister Jake enjoyed basketball, bowling and golfing while spending time with his family watching the Chicago Bulls. Minister Jake enjoyed the fact he could out play a lot of the younger men on the basketball court. After a good game of golf, Minister Jake would relax by watching a good Western on TV. Minister Jake Maiden departed this earthly life on Sunday, July 5, 2026. God extended to him an invitation that he could not refuse. He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Cassandra Maiden of Houston, TX and Jacqueline (Frederick) Jefferson of Kankakee, IL; one brother, Ruben (Thelma) Maiden of Dublin, MS; one sister, Julia (Eugene) Anderson of Clarksdale, MS; seven grandchildren, Shannon Lyons of Houston, TX, Pete Battle Jr. of Chicago, IL, Fredrick Lyons Jr. of Houston, TX, Donald Jefferson of Tacoma, WA, Fredrick Jr., Cedrick, and Edrick Jefferson, all of Kankakee, IL; four great-grandchildren, Pharah Battle, Madison Lyons, Lawrence Hawkins Jr., and Logan Jake Hawkins, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Minister Maiden was preceded in death by his wife, Connie, his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
