Carla Jackson

Carla Denise Jackson (Niecy), was born July 31, 1963 in Kankakee Illinois to Odvie Jackson Sr. and Harriette Jackson (nee Cochran), both deceased. She was the third born of four children. She accepted Christ as an early age. Carla attended Bishop McNamara Catholic High School. Following high school, she went to Olivet Nazarene College to obtain a nursing degree. Unfortunately, at the young age of 19, Niecy’s family lost their beloved mother and wife. At this point, she took on the responsibility of mothering her youngest sister, Kelly, and went on to help Kelly take care of her son, Kamil, when he was born. Niecy started her working career and eventually gained employment at Shapiro Developmental Center in Kankakee, IL as a mental health technician. It was during her employment at Shapiro that she obtained her license to be a practical nurse. She finished her career at Shapiro as a Licensed Practical Nurse after 19 years. At the time of her death, she was employed at Kankakee County Community Services Inc. (KCCSI). Niecy enjoyed reading, growing house plants, playing internet games, talking on the phone, being generous, making other people happy, and talking about how proud she was of her family. Niecy departed this life on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the age of 57. She leaves to cherish her memory, surrogate parents, William and Francine Toler and family; brother, Odvie “Scottie” Jackson (Teresita); sisters, Tracy D. Gavin (Cannon, Jr.) and Kelly J. Davidson (Glenn); uncle, Postelle Cochran (Dorothy); nephews, Tavares Davidson, Justin Davidson and Kamil Jackson; nieces, Anya-Lisa Washington, Jehan Washington, Samira Washington and Khadidra Washington; 13 great-nephews and nieces and a host of beloved cousins and friends, including longtime special friend, James Calvin and family.
