Aaron Hood

Aaron Lee Hood was born on January 31, 1985, in Kankakee, IL, to Lester and Beverly Hood. On November 28, 1985, he was lovingly dedicated to the Lord by Pastor Ronald Baker at Shiloh Baptist Church in Kankakee, IL. In his earlier years, before his condition worsened, Aaron enjoyed being sung to and was deeply in tune with sounds and music. One of his favorite pastimes was watching and listening to Wheel of Fortune and Married with Children. No matter where he was in the house, when the intro song for Wheel of Fortune began, he would scoot as fast as he could to get in front of the TV. Aaron loved listening to all genres of music and was especially amused by nursery rhymes sung by his mother, Beverly, and his grandmother, Shirley Hood. Although Aaron was non-verbal, he was never without a voice. In his own unique way, he communicated whether he was happy, sad, in pain, enjoying a meal, or simply wanted to be left alone. At the age of 22, when Aaron’s needs and condition became too difficult to manage at home, he moved to Misericordia on the north side of Chicago. For the last 17 years, he was lovingly cared for by an incredible medical team. Leslie, his social coordinator, recalled being amazed by “Aaron’s strength and ability to endure whatever challenges he faced.” Linda, his physical therapist, reflected fondly, saying, “Aaron fought the good fight.” Aaron leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, Lester and Beverly Hood of Kankakee; his brother, Marcus (Moriya) Hood of Katy, Texas; nephew and niece Amir & Auri Hood; uncles: Charles Hood of Rex, GA; Joe (Jerolynn) Hood of Conyers, GA; Michael (Josephine) Hood of Bolingbrook, IL; Clarence (Sheila) Wright Jr. of Detroit, MI; and Perry Wright of Kankakee, IL; aunts: Susan (V’Arthur) Rowlett of Matteson, IL, Charlene Hood of Plainfield, IL; and Erica (Timothy) Harris-Carr of Blue Island, IL; along with a host of cousins, great-uncles, and great-aunts. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Shirley Hood, and Clarence and Emily Wright; his uncle, Kevin Wright Sr.; and his aunt, Grace Wright.
